I am currently obsessed with FACIAL OILS. Actually I’ve been obsessed for some time now, but over the holidays I got these babies from Herbivore Botanicals and have fallen more in love.
If you are like me and you’ve struggled with acne, you probably had or have a strong aversion to oil-anything being put on your face. I lived an “oil free” product life throughout my 20s for fear of any sort skin catastrophe (i.e. never-ending cystic acne). I had come to the false notion that oil/oils were the enemy in my pursuit of clear skin and the perpetrator of clogged pores. This is not true.
I’ve learned a lot about my skin through trial and error. One of the biggest lessons I learned came from a dermatologist, who whenever I saw her would put me on a strict, no products on my face for two weeks or a month regimen. I was only allowed to wash my face. My acne after that time would subside greatly, and she would slowly add on a simple skin care regime. When I eventually asked why she would make me do that, she would tell me that a compound of products (usually benzoyl peroxide and glycolic acid) that I was using to get rid of my acne was in fact making it worse. It caused my skin to rash and keep the acne spreading. AWESOME right? No, not awesome. This changed everything for me. I realized then that my skin was delicate, that a gentle, simple approach to my skin was the best way to make it look and feel its best. I have adopted this process since. I look for clean, simple products that will nourish my skin and help it feel its best. Facial oils are just that.
These three facial oils are like heaven in bottles. They feel so amazing on the skin, each of them offering up something healing and wonderful for whatever your skin is in need of. I usually pick which one to use intuitively based on what my skin feels in need of.
Orchid- Smells like you are running through a floral garden. It is so refreshing and yet light on the skin. I love this one in the morning. It perks me right up. I always feel like I am pampering myself when I put it on.
Phoenix- I have been using this one so much lately! This dry weather is killing me. I haven’t been able to get out of my car without shocking myself for the last two months (it’s a nightmare). THIS though is saving my skin. It feels so soothing on, and my face eats it up as though it’s starving. Immediately the texture of my skin softens, is replenished, and is smooth and hydrated.
Lapis- I want to bathe in this oil I love it so much. I mean it is just heavenly. I’ve noticed that the clarity of my skin is better, the texture, and it helps heal those little blemish flare-ups that I am blessed with sometimes with my 31-year-old skin. I find they clear up faster than without. I love this oil, can’t get enough of it…need it always.
Do yourself a favor. Buy a ticket and get on this train. Facial oils are where you want to be.
